Environmental & Occupational Health Programme

Overview

The program of Environmental and Occupational Health [Kesihatan Persekitaran dan Pekerjaan (KPP)] is offered by School of Health Sciences, University Science Malaysia (SHS-USM) to Malaysian and international students as a full time eight semesters undergraduate academic program. Students will be awarded Bachelor Degree of Health (Environmental and Occupational Health) upon successful completion of the program.

This program emphasizes knowledge in field of biomedical as a competitive advantage, which enables graduates to communicate effectively with medical professionals involved in treatment and rehabilitation of individuals suffering environmental and occupational related diseases. The program was designed and developed with care to fulfill the specific needs of potential employers, regulators and modern society in general and the graduates will be trained on international quality management systems, e.g. ISO9001, ISO14001, OSHAS18000, ILO-OSH 2001 and MS 1722: 2003.

Students will be expose to knowledge in the field of quantitative chemistry with special attention on skill of handling analytical instruments in quantifying pollutants in outdoors and indoors samples, independently. Student will also gain real life experience through an 8 months Smart Partnership scheme establish between SHS-USM, industries and government institutions.

Graduate Prospect

Career opportunities for graduate of the Environmental and Occupational Health program are wide (public and private sectors, industries and NGO’s) in Malaysia and in other countries. This include:
      1. Health and Safety officers, Environmental Health Officer and Safety Supervisor.

      2. EMS Engineer, EHS Executives, Health Promotion Officer and Operation Officer

      3. Training Officer and Marketing Executives

      4. Scientific or Research Officers at institutions of higher learning and research

      5. Tutors/Lecturers at public and private institutions of higher learning. Graduates can also register as graduate students and possibly join as teaching staff in Higher Education institution.
